Pulmonology Internship - 1/30/19 - 2/6/19

Both this week and last week, Park Plaza hasn't been as busy as usual. Before our school's J-Term started, Dr. Ng had about 5 to 6 people in the ICU along with patients at her private clinic. This week we went to see about 3 to 4 people in ICU and about the same amount at her private clinic before J-Term. Since I last blogged, I've gotten to see a couple of things I haven't normally been seeing, such as a wound vac as well as a bronchoscopy on some of her patients, and those have been really interesting for me. Other than that, I've been talking with Dr. Ng about common diseases during our current season since a lot of people get sick at this time and also about different doctors and the work they do since she has to work with a lot of other doctors who aren't pulmonologists.

Different Departments in Park Plaza Hospital - 10/10/18 - 11/28/18

Ever since I last blogged, I've gotten to see a lot more of Park Plaza hospital. I've still continued rotating between the hospital's ICU and Dr. Ng's private clinic however I've gotten to see Dr. Ng work with people from other departments of the hospital. Not only have I been getting to just see people who deal with pulmonology-related issues but I've gotten to see a little bit of the work from an interventional radiologist performing a procedure for example. It's all been really interesting going to different departments and ICUs, especially because I've been seeing examples of how one type of doctor interacts with another and how they work together. On top of all of what I've been getting to do with Dr. Ng, I've been jotting down lots of medical terms, for example, parts of the body I didn't learn too much about in school and other things like common diseases people have. Overall, it's been interesting to be able to see some of the pa...

Beginning my Internship at Park Plaza Hospital | 9/19/18 - 10/3/18

About 3 weeks ago I started my pulmonology internship with Dr. Ng at Park Plaza Hospital and have been attending every Wednesday since then. So far, we've been rotating through positions at an intensive care unit (ICU) and a private clinic right next to Park Plaza Hospital. I've been visiting Dr. Ng from 8:30 A.M. to 11:15 A.M., so I only see the patients Dr. Ng meets with during the morning. Dr. Ng has had to check with at least 4 or more patients each time I've gone. It's been really interesting so far, I've observed all kinds of patients that would have to see a pulmonologist, they've ranged from people that require a large number of mechanical ventilation tubes to people that are healthy and are just checking in to see how their respiratory system. Dr. Ng does a number of different things with a patient depending on if they're in ICU or her private clinic. Patients from ICU had their blood pressure and heart rate monitored and checked on a lot, Dr. Ng p...
